5 Reasons Why Your Money Tree Leaves Are Turning Brown

Money Tree is an indoor plant that looks absolutely amazing when it has all lush green leaves.

However, it's just a natural plant, and you will probably see brown leaves on the plant at some point in its life cycle.

So, there is no need to worry at all.

You can fix the brown leaves issue on your plant.

But before that, let's look at the reasons for this problem in the following guide.

Reasons Why Your Money Tree Leaves Are Turning Brown

Here's a list of things you should remember while addressing the brown leaves issue -

1. You Have Been Overwatering Your Money Tree

Overwatering is the major factor in causing several issues in your plant.

And this includes the browning of leaves as well.

But why do the Money Tree leaves turn brown when you add more water?

Well, it's because of the Root Rot issue.

When you overwater the plant, the roots start to rot inside the pot.

And if you continue to add more water, the Money Tree leaves turn brown at some stage of their life.

First, they will turn yellow, and in the later stages, you will see them turning brown and black.

So, make sure you don't overwater your plant.

If you are not sure how much water your Money Tree requires, you will need to look at the soil.

That's the easiest way to know when to water your plant.

2. Underwatering Is Another Reason For This Problem

Did you forget to water your Money Tree for a long time?

If that's the case, you are going to see droopy brown leaves on the plant.

This generally happens when you keep your plants indoors and go on a vacation or similar trips for a long duration.

So, what's the solution to this problem?

If it's a week or two weeks period, you can just thoroughly water the plant a day before your trip.

Otherwise, you should place a water bottle in the plant's container with a few holes in it.

This will ensure that it receives enough water throughout the period.

And it will also prevent the plant from the brown leaves issue.

3. Direct Sunlight May Result In Money Tree Leaves Turning Brown

Apart from the watering issues, this is another prominent reason you'd see such leaves on the plant.

When the leaves come in contact with direct sunlight for an extended period, it causes the burn problem.

The leaves contain a great amount of water.

And when the water content evaporates from them, they turn crisp brown due to the heat.

So, if you have been keeping your Money Tree in direct sun, you need to reconsider it.

It's not the best place for such a plant to be in the sun, especially during the hot summers.

Move it inside.

You can even place it in indirect sunlight, and it will do just fine.

But try to avoid direct sunlight for a long period.

4. Fungus Problem On Your Tree Can Cause This Issue

Are you watering your plant well?

And are you keeping the plant in the shade?

Then, the most probable reason for the brown leaf issue is the fungus problem.

When a fungus attack takes place, the leaves get affected quickly.

It's the most delicate part of the tree, so you're likely to see the first signs on them only.

Therefore, it's important to perform a thorough inspection of the plant.

Check every leaf of the plant.

If you see any curling issue along with the brown leaves problem, it's an indication that there is fungus on the plant.

And it needs to be addressed immediately.

Otherwise, you will see more issues on the plant, and it'd be a huge task to revive it.

5. Lack Of Nutrients Could Be Another Reason For Brown Or Yellow Leaves Problem

Finally, you should keep an eye on the nutrient factor.

If you have been neglecting the plant for a long, the plant might show such signs initially.

So, check for the last time you had provided fertilizer to the plant.

If it's 3-6 months back or even more, you must add all-purpose fertilizer to the plant.

And depending on the size of the plant, you can adjust the frequency of this process.

Alright, now, let's have a look at the frequently asked questions by the readers.
