How To Make Lucky Bamboo Grow Faster

Is it possible to make Lucky Bamboo grow faster?

This is the one thing that keeps bothering many gardeners who don't see any significant growth in their plants.

Lucky Bamboo is a beautiful houseplant, and it can grow really well if it gets the desired conditions.

But if you're growing it for the first time in your home garden, you might struggle a bit while managing this plant.

So, in today's guide, let's dive deep into this topic and find out the ways to improve growth in your Lucky Bamboo plant.

Why Is My Lucky Bamboo Not Growing Fast?

Before we look at the suggestions, let's quickly take a look at the reasons that lead to slow growth in this plant.

1. Your Plant Is Under Stress

This is the most common reason for the plants that do not grow as per their expected growth rate.

When the plant is under stress for some reason, it focuses its energy on fighting the current situation.

Therefore, most of its resources are directed towards the survival mode.

As for this issue, it can happen because of overwatering, underwatering, lack of sunlight, too much sunlight, no nutrients supply, fungus or bacteria attack, etc.

All these issues are known to have a negative impact on houseplants.

So, do think about these possible causes while addressing the growth-related problem in your Lucky Bamboo.

2. You Keep It A Low Light Place

The Lucky Bamboo plant needs sufficient sunlight to grow thicker and taller.

If it doesn't receive natural light, you will see slow or stagnant growth in the plant.

Moreover, the leaves of your plant will also start looking dull during this process, and they may even begin to droop if the same condition persists.

3. You Haven't Fertilized It In A Long Time

Fertilization is an important aspect of any plant's growth.

Even though the Lucky Bamboo can do alright without many fertilizers, you shouldn't neglect it entirely.

If you do, the plant will start showing limited growth over the period.

Ultimately, you won't see much growth in this plant due to a lack of nutrients.

4. There Are Too Many Plants In The Pot

Many times we don't give importance to these things while growing plants in our homes.

But it can surely lead to slow or no growth in your Lucky Bamboo plant.

If you want to make Lucky Bamboo grow faster, you should avoid congestion in the pot.

Although the multiple-plants setup looks great in the pot, each plant will compete for the same resources.

As a result, you won't see much improvement in the growth of your plant.

Now, I'm sure you must be eager to know the solutions to some of these issues.

So, let's not waste more time here and find more about them in the next section.

10 Tips To Make Lucky Bamboo Grow Faster

Alright, here are the tips and suggestions that might help resolve the growth issue in your Lucky Bamboo plant.

1. Provide Natural Light To Your Lucky Bamboo Plant

If you want to see Lucky Bamboo grow faster and taller, you will have to find the right place for the plant.

You should never place this plant in a low-light place, as it hinders the photosynthesis process.

When the plant goes through this situation, it affects the overall growth.

So, try to keep this plant in a well-lit space of your home.

2. Prune The Overgrown Shoots

Pruning can prove to be very effective in encouraging the plant to grow faster.

When you prune the overgrown and unwanted shoots, it sends a signal to the plant to come up with new growth in the coming weeks.

Also, it helps the plant focus on fresh shoots.

While pruning, do not cut off these fresh shoots.

This type of new growth is essential for carrying out important tasks in the plant's internal system.

3. Keep It In A Soil-Based Medium

Soil-based medium is generally considered good for plants because the roots can easily receive nutrients from the soil.

This medium also offers support to the plant, which is crucial in keeping the plant steady while growing up.

Therefore, it's far better than keeping it in the water.

You might see leaf growth when you keep it in the water, but the stalk may not grow as much in this medium.

4. Fertilize The Plant

Whether you are growing it in the soil or water, the plant does need fertilizers.

Of course, you don't have to feed it every month, but it's important for you to provide enough fertilizers throughout the plant's lifetime.

If you don't fertilize the Lucky Bamboo plant, you won't see any growth in its stems or leaves.

It might also affect the growth of roots.

For the soil-based pot, you can use compost or any other commercially available fertilizers for this plant.

If you're growing it in water, you will find many water-soluble fertilizers that are effective in the plant's growth.

Use any of these fertilizers, and I'm sure you will see a great improvement in your plant.

5. Reduce The Watering Frequency

Earlier, I talked about the stress factor in your plant.

Well, the reason for it might be your watering schedule.

If you overwater or underwater the plant, it can hamper its growth.

Similarly, if your schedule is irregular, the Lucky Bamboo plant will depict a similar growth pattern.

To fix this issue, you should check the soil and water the plant accordingly.

Do not water this plant if the soil is wet, and do not let it dry completely, either.

6. Check The Drainage Holes In The Pot

The best way to avoid overwatering or wet soil in the pot is to have some drainage holes at the bottom.

These holes ensure excess water flows out of the system.

So, check for the holes in your Lucky Bamboo pot.

If there are no holes in the pot, you should move the plant to a new pot with drainage holes or make a couple of holes in the same pot.

In case your planter has a few holes, you should check whether they are clogged by the soil.

If yes, try to clean them with a stick or screwdriver or any other available tool in your home.

7. Keep Changing Water If You're Growing It In Water

It is necessary for the plant you grow in the water-based medium.

If you don't remove the existing water, it will attract many issues to the plant.

Eventually, it will result in the same situation that I've already discussed in the above guide.

Due to this, the plant will not grow as fast as you'd expect it to grow.

Change the water every 3-4 days, and make sure you replace it with clean water only.

8. Allow Enough Space In The Pot

Do you feel the pot is overcrowded?

If this is the case with your plant, you should transplant the plant.

Separate the individual plants and put them in different pots.

It will help grow them at a much better rate than growing them together in the same pot.

9. Ensure Sufficient Ventilation In The Room

Ventilation is another key aspect of growing plants at home.

The Lucky Bamboo plant likes to grow in decently ventilated places.

If you have been growing this plant in a closed environment, you should shift it to an airy location.

You can keep it on a windowsill if you want.

It will also help keep your plant dry all the time.

10. Wait For The Next Growing Season

Yes, don't be impatient and expect the plant to show exuberant growth.

It's not going to happen most of the time despite providing all care and nutrients.

Nature has its own way of managing growth, and you can't do much about it.

So, let the plant be and wait for the next summer or spring season.

These are the ideal seasons for plant's growth.

When these seasons arrive, you will see some really good growth in your plant.

For now, you just have to wait a bit and continue to follow the standard growing guidelines.

These are the top 10 suggestions for you.

Do implement these suggestions and see how the plant reacts to them.

I'm sure you will see some exciting growth in your plant.

Moving on, let's check out the following sections where I've shared some FAQs related to this topic.
