How To Fix Bumps On Succulent Leaves

Do you see bumps on the leaves of your succulents?

If so, don't worry - you're not alone!

Many succulent owners find that their plants develop bumps on the leaves for various reasons.

In most cases, the bumps are nothing to worry about and will disappear over time.

However, if you are really concerned about them, let's look at the following guide and learn more about it.

Why Does My Succulent Have Bumps?

Bumps on succulent leaves are usually edema, a condition caused by the plant taking up too much water.

Edema appears as tiny, raised bumps on the surface of the leaves.

It is not usually a severe problem, but if the plant takes up too much water for too long, it can cause the leaves to rot.

You can help prevent edema by ensuring your succulent has good drainage and not watering it too often.

If your succulent already has edema, you can help relieve the condition by watering it less often.

The other possible reason for this issue is pests or fungi attacks on your succulents.

In this case, you will need to get rid of them as soon as possible.

If you are not sure what is causing the bumps on your succulent leaves, you can also take your plant to a local garden center and get it examined by experts.

Besides, you can also take a look at the following section to know how you can fix this problem.

How To Fix Bumps On Succulent Leaves

Here's a list of things you can do to fix this problem in your succulents -

1. Improve Drainage In The Pot

If your succulent is in a pot, it should have good drainage.

If the pot does not have good drainage, the water will sit in the pot, and this can cause the roots to rot.

To improve drainage, you can add a layer of gravel or rocks to the bottom of the pot before adding soil.

2. Do Not Water Your Plant Too often

Water your succulents only when the soil is dry, as they are accustomed to low resources.

Do not water it too often, as this can cause the plant to take up too much water, leading to edema.

3. Get Rid Of Pests And Any Other Issues

If your succulent is being attacked by pests or fungus, you will need to take steps to get rid of them.

This is what you can do if you come across any such issues -

- For pests: Use a pesticide or an insecticidal soap to get rid of the problems.

- For fungus: Use a fungicide to get rid of the fungus.

You can even try homemade solutions to remove pests and fungus from your succulents.

4. Transplant Your Succulent Into A New Pot

If you think that the bumps on your succulent leaves are caused by the plant being rootbound, you can try transplanting your plant into a new pot.

Choose a slightly larger pot than the current pot that has good drainage.

Transplant your succulent in the spring or summer when the weather is warm.

5. Cut Off Affected Leaves

If some of the leaves on your succulent are affected by edema, you can try cutting off the affected leaves.

Make sure to use a sharp knife or scissors and cut the leaves cleanly at the base.

Discard the affected leaves in the trash.

You should also avoid watering the plant for a few days after cutting off the leaves.

This will give the plant a chance to dry out and help prevent the spread of edema to other parts of the plant.

These are some of the things you can do to get rid of bumps on succulent leaves.

Things To Do If Succulent Bumps Do Not Go Away

Here's what you can do in this case -

1. Wait For A Few More Days

If the bumps on your succulent leaves do not go away, you can wait for a few more days to see if they will disappear on their own.

Some bumps may take a few days to disappear.

So, it is best to wait for a few days before taking any action.

2. Get A New Plant

There is no point in waiting and hoping that the bumps on your succulent leaves will disappear on their own.

If they do not go away after a few days, you can get a new succulent plant.

Choose a good succulent plant from a reputable nursery or garden center.

This should ensure you don't have to worry about such issues, and you can simply grow and enjoy your succulent.

These are the two things you can do if you're left with no other option.

But do try out the suggestions shared in the guide above.

In the next section, I have shared some FAQs related to this issue.

Do take a look at them if you have any similar queries in mind.

FAQs

1. What Do Overwatered Succulents Look Like?

If your succulent has bumpy, leathery leaves and has a waxy texture, it is likely that the plant is overwatered.

Overwatering can cause the leaves to become soft and mushy and the roots to rot.

2. Should Succulents Be In Direct Sunlight?

Most succulents need at least four hours of sunlight per day, but some can tolerate less.

If your succulent is not getting enough sunlight, it will start to stretch in search of light.

However, you should avoid keeping these plants in direct sunlight for a long period.

Otherwise, the leaves may get sunburned, which will cause them to turn white or brown.

3. What Does Fungus On Succulent Look Like?

Fungus on succulents can cause the leaves to turn black, brown, or yellow.

The fungus will also produce a white, powdery substance on the leaves.

It is important to remove the affected leaves and treat the plant with a fungicide if you see these symptoms.

4. Why Are My Jade Leaves Bumpy?

Jade leaves can become bumpy for a variety of reasons, including overwatering, under watering, too much or too little sunlight, or a nutrient deficiency.

If you notice that your jade leaves are becoming bumpy, it is essential to examine the plant carefully to determine the cause.

Once you know the reason, you can take steps to fix the problem.

5. How Do I know If I'm Watering Succulents Too Much?

If you notice that the leaves of your succulents are becoming mushy or transparent, you are likely watering the plant too much.

Other signs of overwatering include yellow, brown, or black leaves; rotting roots; and a wilting plant.

If you think you are overwatering your succulents, it is important to cut back on watering and allow the plant to dry out completely between waterings.

Over To You

It can be quite worrying when you see bumps on your favorite succulents.

But, as you have seen in this guide, there is no need to panic.

In most cases, the bumps will disappear on their own in a few days.

If they do not go away, you can work on the things suggested above to get rid of them.

I hope you found this guide helpful.
