Types Of White Spots On Aloe Vera Plant

There are two types of white spots you get to see on Aloe plant varieties.

1. Natural White Spots

In some of the traditional varieties like Aloe barbadensis and Lace Aloe (Aloe Aristata), you will get to see these white spots on specks on the leaves.

These are absolutely normal white spots on the plant, and you don't have to worry about them at all.

These spots are a part of the leaves' surface, and you shouldn't try to remove them with any cleaning agents.

Of course, if you don't like these spots on your plant, you can simply replace it with another variety of Aloe plant.

2. Fungal White Spots

These white spots are slightly different than the usual ones!

And you need to be a bit more cautious when you see them on your Aloe Vera plant.

When the fungus affects your Aloe plant, it often appears in white or black color.

Also, if the spots are white, you are going to find them on the surface of the leaves.

The black spots, however, become a part of the leaf as the fungus starts feeding on the juices present inside the leaf.

But in both cases, the plant will suffer significant damage.

And if you don't attend to these issues early, it might spread to the entire plant.

So, let's see how you can fix the white spot problem on your Aloe plant in the following section.

6 Tips To Fix White Spots On Aloe Vera Plant

Here is the list of tips for you -

1. Clean The Aloe Plant With Water Spray

If the plant is affected by white fungus spots, you must remove them with the help of water spray.

Simply spray your plant with plain water and try to get rid of the sticky substance present on the leaves' surface.

If you see a lot of white spots on some of the leaves, you may remove these leaves entirely.

There is no point in cleaning these Aloe leaves, as they will turn mushy and flat in a few days.

You should only keep the leaves on the plants that are fresh and plump.

Other leaves will probably have more colonies of fungus or mealybugs, and it's better to get rid of them.

2. Spray Fungicides To Get Rid Of The Fungus Problem

Once you have cleaned the visible white spots and removed the affected leaves off your Aloe plant, you can think of tackling this issue.

And the best way to do so is to use fungicides!

Fungicides are helpful in controlling the damage caused by common fungus on the plants.

For this purpose, you can either use inorganic or organic products available on the market.

For organic options, you can go ahead with the Neem Oil or Vinegar solution.

Both of them are effective in dealing with this type of issue on your houseplants.

However, the only thing you need to remember here is to keep your plant dry before spraying the fungicides on the plants.

If the leaves and stem are wet, you should wait for them to dry out completely.

Apart from that, you should spray this solution in the evening or early morning.

Do not spray it in the afternoon, as it may cause burn issues on some of the leaves.

3. Transplant The Plant If Required

When you observe white spots on the Aloe Vera plant, it usually is the first sign of the fungus problem.

And there is nothing more than that!

It can easily be controlled with fungicides.

But if it's a widespread issue, you will have to perform one more extra step.

Transplant the Aloe plant!

Yes, you will have to transplant your Aloe into a new pot if you want to avoid further damage.

As you might know, these issues often arrive from the soil.

So, if you keep growing your Aloe plant in the same soil, you will have to face the issue again in the future.

Hence, you must move the plant into a new container and soil.

Also, do not use the old soil for any other plants in your garden.

4. Place The Plant Container In A Sunny Place

Done with the transplanting?

Now, water your plant a little and place the container in a sunny place.

It's the most important step in controlling the white spots fungus in your plants.

When you keep the plants in a sunny place, it helps in keeping them dry for a long period.

It also prevents the further growth of fungal issues.

Therefore, even if you treat the plant with fungicides or any other solutions, you must place it in a sunny place.

5. Keep An Eye On The Recurrence Of White Spots

The white spots fungus is one of the toughest issues to handle in the gardening world.

Although it is easier to manage with fungicides, it can surely make a come back from nowhere and damage the plant in quick time.

So, you need to be watchful even after performing all the steps mentioned above.

6. Discard The Affected Plant

If there are just too many spots and colonies of white fungus in the plant, you should consider removing it completely.

This plant will find it difficult to recover from this issue and spread the problem in other plants in your home garden.

And if you want to save other plants from it, you will have to discard the one with major issues.

Note: This is the last step of action while dealing with the fungus issue in Aloe plants.

In most cases, you will not have to perform this step at all.

So, do try to fix the issue as early as possible.

If not, there will always be an option to discard the plant.

4 Things To Remember While Fixing The White Spots Issue On Aloe Plant

Here are a few more things that you must remember while fixing this problem -

1. You Will Need To Take Good Care Of Your Plant

When the plant goes through a fungal problem, it needs immediate attention.

But on top of that, it also requires care after you've cleaned the mess and sprayed the fungicide.

You will still need to provide enough water to the plant if required.

You will also have to ensure that the soil or growing medium remains dry and clean all the time.

If you can work on these things, the Aloe plant will surely bounce back within a few weeks.

2. The Fungicides Will Not Be Effective With Single Application

Yes, you need to remember this truth!

If the infestation is high, the first round of fungicide won't be as effective.

And you will have to perform a couple of rounds more to see more powerful results.

The fungus issue has a tendency to come back again, especially when the conditions are suitable for its growth.

So, you will have to be patient and check the results every other day.

Wait for 4-5 days between each round of fungicide application.

3. Isolate The Affected Plants

When the fungal attack strikes on one plant, it's bound to spread in other plants as well.

And you can't stop it from happening!

Hence, it's a good idea to isolate the Aloe plant with white spots.

You should address the problem in a different place and keep it away from other plants for at least a few weeks.

If you don't follow this practice, you will start seeing similar white spots on different succulents in your garden.

4. Change The Watering Schedule

Finally, check the watering schedule of your Aloe plant.

Watering frequency is one of the reasons why we see this problem in many indoor plants.

But if you can fix your schedule for each plant, it will be easier to tackle such problems in the future.

In case you don't know when to water your Aloe, you should check the topsoil of the container.

You should only water the plant if it seems dry.

Now, let's look at the FAQs below.
